Nothing quite gives you that feeling of having your life together like walking into work with a beautiful bag. Matt & Nat
Matt & Nat is one of those brands you can disappear into for an afternoon. There is an enormous choice of bags, colours and shapes, alongside shoes and accessories, so it is particularly good if you like the idea of finding one brand and staying with it. The aesthetic ranges from beautifully classic to playful and colourful, while the brand uses recycled materials throughout its collections. Its linings are made from recycled plastic bottles, with a focus on responsible materials, responsible manufacturing and creating products intended to last.
A backpack does not have to look sporty. The Fabi in blush pink is soft, understated and surprisingly elegant, with a shape that works just as well with tailoring as it does with a more relaxed outfit.
It fits a laptop, has adjustable straps and expands at the top when you need a little extra room. It is made from vegan leather and, at £70, is one of the more accessible options in the edit.
The Kintla manages that rather difficult combination of looking sophisticated while still feeling relaxed enough for everyday use.
The ginger shade is particularly beautiful, giving the classic satchel shape a warmer, more contemporary feel. There are three internal compartments and an adjustable, removable crossbody strap, making it easy to organise your things and carry it in whichever way suits you that day. It is also made entirely from recycled materials and comes in black.
A daffodil yellow backpack is not what most of us picture when we think of an office bag, which is precisely why we love this one.
The colour brings something joyful to a work outfit, while the shape remains sleek enough for the office. It has adjustable straps, enough space for a laptop and an interior lining made from recycled bottles. It comes in three colours, although the yellow is our favourite.
Elvis & Kresse
There is something particularly satisfying about an Elvis & Kresse bag. The brand takes genuine decommissioned fire hose, which would otherwise go to waste, and turns it into beautiful, wonderfully tactile bags. Where leather is used, it is rescued rather than newly produced, and the result is something that feels as far removed from a traditional office bag as you could imagine. The craftsmanship is part of the appeal. Each bag is hand woven and hand stitched, with hand painted and bound edges and a padded shoulder strap that can be adjusted or removed. Inside, there is an internal zipped pocket and full width padded pockets for the things you need to reach quickly, including your laptop.

O My Bag has mastered the kind of timeless, quietly luxurious design that makes you imagine carrying the same bag for years. The Amsterdam based brand is a certified B Corp and places a strong emphasis on responsible materials, transparency and fair working conditions. Living wages are part of its approach to production, while the brand also invests in local community projects and has circular initiatives including a resale programme for pre loved bags. And none of this comes at the expense of beauty.
Jackie is the classic office bag. Sumptuous cognac leather, a clean silhouette and just enough structure to make it feel polished without being formal.
Inside, everything has its place, with one zipped pocket and two slip pockets, while the adjustable and detachable webbing strap gives you the option of carrying it by hand or over your shoulder.

LaBante London
LaBante London is another brand that manages to make sustainability feel wonderfully luxurious. Founded by a woman and PETA certified, the company uses recycled materials and places considerable emphasis on transparency and traceability throughout its manufacturing. Its production partners are required to meet standards around fair wages, maternity cover and working conditions. There is also a lovely sense of occasion to the bags. They are designed to feel like proper luxury accessories rather than compromises made in the name of sustainability.
The Sheila is exactly the sort of work bag we had in mind when we started this edit. The shape is elegant and quietly polished, while the hand braided plant based leather detailing gives it a beautiful handcrafted quality.
Made from plant based vegan leather, it has the structure you want from a work bag without feeling overly corporate. Inside there are dedicated pockets for your phone and keys, while an adjustable crossbody strap gives you another way to carry it when the day calls for both hands.
The Aricia is a little more traditional, but no less beautiful. The grey finish, gold hardware and vivid fuchsia lining make the inside just as lovely as the outside.

Buying one beautiful bag that works properly, carrying exactly what you need, knowing where it came from and expecting to love it for years. A work bag should make life easier.
